Why use TruReg?

The requirement to register trusts has created a historic challenge for trustees. If you think you may be affected, you can send us a copy of your trust(s) for us to review, and then we will talk you through what you need to do (including re. payment if you want us to help).

Because TruReg is part of Kinherit, the UK’s leading* Wills & Trusts specialist, you can be sure you are in the safe hands of qualified professionals. (* all of our Estate Planners train and qualify with the Society of Trust Estate Planners, the pre-eminent professional body for Wills & Trusts in the UK.)

Background to the legislation

In 2020, Anti-Money Laundering Directive 5 was adopted in the UK. This enshrined in law a legal obligation for most Trusts to register with HMRC’s Trust Registration Service by the 1st September deadline.

Using an agent

HMRC recognises that it is asking trustees for a lot of information, in a precise way, and with questions that can be technical in nature. To help trustees get through the process smoothly, HMRC allows certain 3rd parties (such as TruReg) to act as an authorized “Agent”.

What do I need to do?

Since 6 October 2020, trustees are legally required to keep detailed records of the trusts and key people named within. Most trusts will also need to register on HMRC’s Trust Register by 1 September 2022. We can help you collect the right information and register your trust. It starts with sending us a copy of your trust.

How does it work?

To initially register with us, we'll just need your Trust deed documents; once we've approved your application, we will need details of all Trustees, Settlors, Beneficiaries. For UK nationals, we'll need National Insurance numbers, and for Non-UK nationals, a passport number.

Our Process

  • Step 1 Upload your Trust deed documents via our Registration Form
  • Step 2 A specialist will review your trust and suggest times for a call.
  • Step 3 We will talk through background and process.
  • Step 4 If you wish to proceed, you will need to pay to formally mandate us.
  • Step 5 We will extract relevant information and explain gaps to provide.
  • Step 6 Once you have confirmed all the information, we will submit to HMRC.
  • Step 7 Once complete you will receive a letter from HMRC with the Trusts Reference Number, this can take 14-30 days.

Our Basic service is £350, but some more complex trusts may require additional fees. We will advise you in advance if that's the case.
